I would absolutely do EVERYTHING differently. Obviously this is dream land, as I would not know what I know now without going through hell, but looking back…
As soon as he turned to alcohol to assuage his grief I would say get help or get out. As soon as he started breaking things and superglue became an accessory to all of my treasures I would recognize his problem with anger and I would end things. As soon as I started to feel uncomfortable in MY own home I would end things. As soon as he touched me in anger I would call the police and I would free myself. I would love myself more, I would believe that it can be better, I would believe that there is a man somewhere (FOUND HIM!) who can love me completely and treat me the way I deserve to be treated. I would be the person that I wanted everyone to believe that I was.
I would not let the police leave without taking him with them. I would press charges. I would make sure he was in jail.
